Kinseys Spectrum
Kinseys Spectrum
At the start of the 20th century Dr Alfred Kinsey was the first person to research sexuality, and concluded that all of us fall within a spectrum. Over simplifying his findings would be to say that very few reach the extremes of either end of being 100% "straight" or "gay".
Gilbert Baker designed the original pride flag in 1978 with 8 colours, but because of a shortage of pink fabric, was reduced to the six-colour rainbow flag most commonly used in the first decades of the 21st century.
In recent years I have become worried that the divisive nature of western media has penetrated the LGBTQI+ community so deeply that it is at risk of fracturing completely as individuals focus on being acknowledged as individuals rather than fighting together to continue gaining ground for equal rights for all.
"Kinseys Spectrum" is my way of combing the spectrum of sexuality, with the various tones, shapes and textures contrasting but all working together as one.
